Newberg and Dundee
The best place to stay will depend on which sub-region of the area you’ll be exploring. 99W is the main highway that many of the tasting rooms are on, or off of, so staying on this road will be convenient. Coming from Portland, the first towns you’ll encounter on 99W that have wineries and tasting rooms will be Newberg and Dundee. In Newberg, the most luxurious hotel is the Allison Inn & Spa. It’s conveniently located to be a short 5 minute drive to many of the popular wineries and tasting rooms. For wine lovers, the Allison also has it’s own vineyards on the property. Finally, it’s got a delicious restaurant that will serve amazing food to go with your locally sourced wine.
In Newberg, there’s also a Best Western that’s conveniently located to wine activities. The Chehalem Ridge Bed and Breakfast is another option in Newberg. This bed and breakfast is located at the top of a hill with spectacular views of the town of Newberg. It’s a bit further from the main drag, but still easily accessible. The Black Walnut Inn in Dundee is a small, comfortable Inn surrounded by vineyards, in the moderate price range.
Hillsboro and Forest Grove
Hillsboro and Forest Grove are further east (located off Route 8), but another popular spot for wine enthusiasts. In Forest Grove you’ll find McMenamin’s Grand Lodge. In Hillsboro, The Orenco is a comfortable and convenient place to stay, and for the budget-conscious, there’s a Holiday Inn Express, too. In McMinnville, you’ll feel right at home at the 3rd Street Flats. Each room is decorated exquisitely with a different theme and below the apartments you’ll find dozens of cute shops, wineries, restaurants and cafes to keep you busy.
